This is a very interesting note from General Lafayette referencing passage for a courier from the US to England. Lafayette wrote his name in the greeting and further initialed the end of the document.
The text reads: "Gnl. Lafayette / Best Compliments. Wait on Mr. Robin (a correction in spelling apparent) and send him two tickets for the seance of Friday. He will take the liberty to hand (a correction apparent) him with some letters for England on tomorrow evening. (Initials) Friday Morn.
The term "seance" is an archaic French word for "seats" and in common usage at the time. The corrections are in Lafayette's hand. This is a close-up of the handwritten text.
Also included in this lot is a 19th century engraving of Lafayette with a facsimile signature. There is some light to moderate foxing. This will nicely compliment the letter in a properly framed and conserved presentation.

The bowl is hammered silver on the interior, with a very detailed edge treatment of 32 lobes (one for each of the Gau (districts) of Germany at the time) with hand-worked crosshatching. The separately applied rim was gilded at one time, about 75% of the original gilt remains.
It measures 12-1/2 inches in diameter, and stands 2 inches high. Here is a view of the bottom, the inscription being in the center.
