General Military Combat Equipment

This is a very old (late 19th century) original E. I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company 20-cap blasting machine. 

The machine has a brass plated original data plate. There is a stamped number 2A49 on the rack.

The machine is a heavy duty 20 cap capacity blasting machine.  It appears to be totally functional and the handle and dynamo operates smoothly throughout its range. Both captive bronze wing nuts are present and without defect.  None of the screws are missing, and all are in very good condition.  If they have been turned for maintenance, care was used. The slots are all in about the same condition as when it was made over 100 years ago.

These machines are exceptionally difficult to find in any condition. This machine is in completely unrestored condition. The wood has some signs of routine wear from long use. There are a couple of very minor cracks present. There is freckling and tarnish to the brass data plate and instruction plates from age and exposure.  There is some slight cracking to the leather handle (it is not recommended to be used for lifting the device).

The blasting machine measures 14 inches (16 inches, including the handle in the down position) by 5-3/4 inches wide by 8-1/4 inches deep.  All parts are oak wood, or non-sparking metal (bronze, brass).  This is a view from the right side and one from the left side.

This is a very old (early 20th century) original Hercules No. 3 E. I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company design 30-cap blasting machine. 

The machine has a brass plated original data plate. There is a stamped number L194 on the rack.

The machine is a heavy duty 30 cap capacity blasting machine.  It appears to be totally functional and the handle and dynamo operates smoothly throughout its range. Both captive bronze wing nuts are present and without defect.  Three of the original brass screws are missing, and all others are in good to very good condition.  They have been turned for maintenance, care was used. The slots are all in good to very good condition as when it was made over 100 years ago.

These machines are exceptionally difficult to find in any condition. This machine is in completely unrestored condition. The wood has some moderate signs of routine wear from long use. There are a couple of minor cracks present. There is freckling and tarnish to the brass data plate and instruction plates from age and exposure.  There is some slight cracking to the leather handle (it is not recommended to be used for lifting the device).

The blasting machine measures 14 inches (16 inches, including the handle in the down position) by 5-3/4 inches wide by 8-1/4 inches deep.  All parts are oak wood, or non-sparking metal (bronze, brass).  This is a view from the right side and one from the left side.

This is a World War One original E. I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company Carney's Point Delaware Tintype Photo ID. 

This copper identification tag has a tamper-proof photo mounting showing the employee's identification number and birth year (1856).

The Carney's Point plant employed 25,000 workers at the height of its production during WWI.

The ID measures 1-1/4 inches (the leather strap measures 10 inches overall)  This is a view of the back.

This bag is identified to a paratrooper of the 187th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division during WWII through the Occupation of Japan.

The artwork is phenomenal.  The central feature is a six-gun toting semi-nude woman with a parachute canopy behind her.  She is surrounded by the unit insignia of the 11th Airborne Division, the 187th Infantry Regiment (ARCT) (with wolf's head charge), paraglider and glider branch insignia and "U. S. Paratroops" and "Sapporo Japan" on the front.

The back of the bag has the name of the paratrooper, Donald J. Sterling with his serial number and hometown of Chicago, Illinois around a very large rendition of the basic jump wing.

The top of the bag has the artwork of the parachute branch and the grinning skull of the 3rd Battalion Rakkasan.

The condition is generally very good throughout.  The paint is outstanding, showing minor signs of wear from age and routine transport and years of careful storage.

The plastic trim on the top and leather show moderate wear and tear.

This bag is identified to one of only three original Tuskegee airmen to server in combat in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, LTC John L. "Mr. Death" Whitehead.

The artwork is phenomenal.  The central feature is a pair of P-51 Mustang "Red Tails", and the squadron emblems associated with the 301st Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group.  He also served with the 100th Fighter Squadron, and others over a three war military carreer.  An abbreviated biography of his service is noted here.

The back of the bag has the name of the aviator, and his First Lieutenant bar, and some exceptional artwork.

The top of the bag shows the artwork from a different angle.  The back of the bag is unremarkable, without art.

The plastic trim is in decent shape, the leather handle shows some wear.

This bag is identified to the First Sergeant of the 89th Bomb Squadron, 38th Bomb Group, 5th Air Force stationed in the Southwest Pacific theater in Australia, Port Moresby, New Guinea. The 89th squadron flew Douglas A-20 Havoc and the 38th Bomb Group flew Martin B-26 Marauder attack bombers, often on low level parachute bombing operations. The 89th was assigned technically to the 3rd Bomb Group (Light), however, both units flew out of Brisbane, Australia from February 1942, with the first mission of the 89th in April.

The artwork is phenomenal.  The central feature is a squadron emblem surrounded by three battle stars and the name and serial number of the soldier in black on white banners.

The back of the bag has the name of the soldier again, 1st Sgt Robert L. Robinson with his serial number in a slightly different style than shown on the front, with white letters.  The top of the bag has a faded US Army Air Forces emblem stencil.

The condition is generally very good throughout.  The paint is outstanding, showing minor signs of wear from age and routine transport and years of careful storage.

The zippers are slightly damaged and the leather is worn

This bag is partially identified to a captain of the 19th Bomb Group (later absorbed into the 19th Bomb Wing), 20th Air Force stationed in the Pacific Theater of Operations in Guam, Saipan, and Tinian.  This squadron flew B-29s on Japan bombing operations.

The artwork is nice.  The central feature is a the officer branch pilot emblem surrounded by 20th A.F and 19th B. W.

The back of the bag has Caniff's Dragon Lady of Terry and the Pirates fame, surrounded by the locations of Guam, Saipan, and Tinian.  The rank of the officer is visible in the banner and the name is partially readable and might show up under black light or computer enhancement.

The condition is generally very good throughout.  The paint is outstanding, showing minor signs of wear from age and routine transport and years of careful storage.

The handle is slightly damaged and the leather has been repaired on one side and missing on the other side of the handle.  The handle remains attached.

The bag, which measures 24" long, has two painted areas, one on the side of the bag, with a painted area measuring approx. 10" in diameter, and a s econd painted area on a top edge measuring approx. 2.5" long.

Both areas are painted in the familiar style you see on WW2 A-2 jackets, with a circular insignia. This particular insignia features a bird, with the inscription "Hawkeyes" and the name "Jerry San". The smaller, top insignia, also says "Hawkeyes" and additionally says "9th", as if to designate a particular WW2 military unit.

The zippers are in nice, working condition and the bag still has it's original metal clothes hangers inside.

There's also a very old United Airlines tag attached to the top of the bag.

This bag is in pretty decent overall condition, showing only some minor damage at one corner of one of the outside pockets.

The US Army Air Forces stencil on the top of the bag is sharp and clear.

This is a very well made leather and heavy canvas pouch. It a dark field green. There are no apparent maker marks on the back or inside. This is a view from the bottom. It measures approximately 9-1/2 by 10 inches.

Condition: near excellent throughout. The leather is intact and present. This is a completely serviceable piece of equipment and rarely encountered in this condition.

This is a very well made leather and heavy canvas pouch. It was originally tan and blackened for combat use. Any marks that were on the back are under the subduing. There are no marks apparent on the leather belt straps. It measures 9-1/2 by 6 inches.

Condition: near very good throughout. The leather is intact and present.

This is a very well made leather and heavy canvas pouch. It is green with brown straps and has an auxiliary accessory pouch attached. Two of the pins for the retaining straps are missing. This is a very well made canvas and leather pouch. It is tan coated canvas with black straps, sewn in snaps, sewn tan leather edge finishing, and unpainted rivets. There are no maker marks apparent. These are very well made leather and heavy canvas pieces of equipment. The bag is green with black leather and complete and intact.  It is "Stragell Posen" maker marked and has a 1941 date. This is a view of the inside. There is a 95 size marking (about 37 inches) on the web belt tip. This is a view of the back of the belt group.  There is no buckle with this lot.

The E. PACK & S. bayonet is in very good serviceable condition.  This is a view of the front, back and serial numbers of the scabbard and bayonet (not matching).

This is a very well made leather and heavy canvas piece of equipment. It is green with black straps. This is a view of the inside. There are "Moritz Stecher Freiberg" and "1942" date stamped on the top leather strap brace. This variation has the 17 heavy rivets along the top, with two massive rivets for the straps. It measures 12 by 12 by 6 inches.

The condition is very good to near excellent throughout. The leather is all intact and present.  There is some very light wear to the leather border around the fur.  The fur is in outstanding condition.

This is a very well made leather supple and intact. It was originally tan and blackened for combat use. This is a view of the tips showing the attachment and button slots. There are no apparent maker marks. It measures 48 inches overall.  It is just over 3/4 inches wide (20mm).

Condition: near very good throughout. The leather is intact and present.  It serviceable and well-suited for a static display, however field use is not recommended o r intended.

This is a very well made heavy canvas with gray metal snap fittings and adjusters. This is a view of the back. This is a view of the maker mark stamped on the strap. It is unreadable. There are LUX stamped maker marks on the metal snap attachments. It measures 44 inches at nearly full extension. It can be considerably shortened by adjustment.

Condition is near mint throughout.

This is a very well made heavy cotton twill canvas with gray metal adjusters and matching cloth straps. The gloves are completely lined with rabbit fur.  There is virtually no sign of dryness or shedding of the fur. This is a view of the outside. There are no maker marks.

They measure 12 inches long and 7 inches wide measuring them flat across the fingers at the widest point.

Condition is near excellent throughout.

This is a very well made heavy canvas with gray metal snap fittings and adjusters. This is a view of the inside. There are no maker marks.

They measure 14-1/2 inches at the top (not including straps) and 12-1/2 inches on the bottom.

Condition is near mint throughout.

This is a very well made camouflage pattern cloth with gray metal snap fittings. These are views of the front and back in the case. This is a view of the maker marks stamped on the poletops.

Condition is used, very good to near excellent throughout.  Marks do not all match (not uncommon in issued gear).

This has a 1941 dated mask and "byd" (Draegerwerk, Hein. & Bernh. Draeger, Luebeck) maker marked filter assembly. The rubber on the mask is stiff, however, it should be fine for routine display purposes.

It is named to the soldier and unit (a flak anti-aircraft artillery battalion: 1.Lei.Flak-Ers Abt. 93)

This is a very well made heavy weight flexible leather with gray metal snap fittings, buckles, and adjusters. This is a view of the back. This is a view of the maker mark ink stamped on the strap. It is readable as M.d.l. 1/60 (unreadable word) Nr. 1828. There is an "81" ink stamped on the back of the junction of the "Y". There are no apparent maker marks on the metal attachments. It measures 25 inches on the two long arms, and 10 inches at the short arm side, as shown. It can be adjusted to fit.

Condition is very good to near excellent throughout. There is some very minor rust on the steel, nothing that can't be cleaned up. This is a serviceable piece of equipment.

This is a very well made heavy weight flexible leather with gray metal snap fittings, buckles, and adjusters. This is a view of the RZM and maker marks stamped on two of the snaps. It is dated 1937. It measures 25 inches on the two long arms, as shown. It can be adjusted to fit.

Condition is generally very good throughout. There is some minor crazing of the leather. This should be a serviceable piece of equipment with some routine maintenance.

This is a very well made heavy weight leather and brass hanger for the field canteen. This is a view of the back. It measures 3-1/2 inches overall and is built for the 2 to 2-1/4 inch wide belt.

Condition is excellent to near mint throughout. This is a serviceable piece of equipment.

This is a very well made heavy weight tight woven burlap. This is a view of the back showing the date and "H. Vpfl." (Heeres Verpflegung "Army Food Supply") mark. It measures 28 inches by 49 inches.

This is a very well made heavy weight holster for the Luger. The original black dye has been virtually worn off the exterior surfaces from years of long and hard field use. The straps at the back were field repaired and reinforced with screws and nuts as shown.

The proof mark is WaA163 and national eagle. This is a view of the back showing the P.08 and waffamt mark. This is a view under the flap showing the takedown tool pouch (no tool present) and traces of old black color. This is an overall view of the back. The stitching is tight and intact.

Condition is good to very good throughout, except as noted above. This is a serviceable piece of equipment.

This is a very well made heavy weight holster for the Luger. The original brown dye is in very good overall condition. The magazine pouch shows signs of extensive wear, being the only detraction of significance.

This is a very well made heavy weight holster for the Walther P-38 automatic pistol. The original black finish is in very good overall condition. The magazine pouch shows signs of minor wear.

There is an ink stamped three letter maker mark "jwa" (Moritz Stecher, Lederwerk, Freiburg) and "42" date apparent on the back. The stitching is tight and intact.

Condition is near excellent throughout. This is a serviceable piece of equipment.

We also have two pebble-grain black cowhide P.38 holsters of similar design with "cxb" (Moll, Lederwarenfabrik, Goch, Rheinland) 42, and "jkh" 4 (second number not readable) (Karl Busse, Ausrustungsgegenstande (equipment), Mainz) available in similar near excellent condition. This is a very well made aluminum alloy with steel fittings clip designed to hold four rounds.

This is a very well made aluminum alloy with steel body projectile designed to hold

There is a 1942 dated proof mark and "aso" (Fichtel & Sachs, Schweinfurt) maker mark. The inert aluminum fuze unscrews to reveal the empty hollow body of the round.

This is a very well made screw top watertight fuse holder for what appears to be the 88mm artillery round.

It is completely serviceable and appears to be in issued, however, near excellent condition. The marks on the flap show a 1945 manufacture date, and various maker marks.  It has a metal lined spare magazine holder. This is a view of the back, showing the hangers.

This design was in use throughout WWII.

This is a very well made lamp, with the bail serving to retain the top of the battery compartment.  The original battery (long dead) is included. There is some rusting on the inside of the battery box from age and long storage.  There is little sign of corrosion present. The marks on the top lid show Made in England markings.  The battery is also British maker marked and priced.

Condition is good to very good throughout, with the exception of a pair of hairline cracks in the front lens, as shown.

The condition is used and generally very good to near excellent. There is a slight bend in the stem from years of long storage.  There is wear to the original black paint.

There are two canvas ring mounts for an adjustable neck strap.  The strap is no longer present. This is an easily replaced standard part.

The condition is generally near excellent, excepting the missing strap.

With some fitted cardboard and stuffing, this would make an affordable addition to your Airborne paratrooper diorama or display.

The 27th Marines, 5th Marine Division made the invasion landings at Iwo Jima on the Red 1 and Red 2 beaches on the morning of 19 February 1945.  Four Marines from this unit were awarded the Medal of Honor at Iwo Jima.

There are two canvas chest tie straps and an adjustable neck strap. It has one snap missing, however the original snap cover remains. This is an easily replaced standard part.

It is a multi-piece movable 12 Inch square heavy Plexiglas Planetary Gears Ordnance Department training device in the original shipping carton.  This training aid was designed by the Ordnance School and built by the Gardner Displays Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before WWII. It is identified as number WMT 1.5/1

This is a very well made rotating and articulated device, with rotating sun gear, contrasting planet gears, and ring. There are two arms for remote articulation when attached to the existing screw mounts. Planetary gears were (and still are) used in a variety of applications, including breech locks, turret mechanisms, and power transfer cases.

This is a very well stocked massive kit, containing a large variety of items necessary to take care of virtually every sort of emergency that would be likely in the event of a nuclear attack or natural disaster.

This kit is about 25 years old.  A number of the items are well past their usable lifetime and not intended for actual use.

This is a very well-stocked portable potty, containing a large variety of items necessary to maintain it and ensure functionality for several weeks -- or longer with rationing..

This kit is about 60 years old.  A number of the items are well past their usable lifetime and not intended for actual use, although they are in the original packaging in unused mint condition.

The potty measures 14-1/2 by 12-3/4 inches.  There is some oxidation to the aluminum from age, nothing significant. There is a repairable break in the black composite plastic seat.  The repair should be nearly invisible with careful application of an ethyl cyanoacetate super glue type of adhesive.

The condition is very good to near excellent.

These dummy rounds are completely inert and incapable of being made to function as anything other than testing equipment for the various weapons and weapon systems that they were designed to fit.

The blue tip rounds are training dummy rounds.  The ones marked "EXPERIMENTAL" were designed to test variations in crimps, projectile or shell casing behavior in the specific weapon they were designed to fit. All primer cups have dummy inserts or recessed and can not be made or modified to fire. An example of the 30mm primer cup is shown here.

There are several "solid" rounds used to test automatic feed systems, chamber tolerances, headspace and similar non-firing applications.

There are several custom-made one-off rounds (inert) that were created locally by the ordnance department for specific applications or because of a lack of a manufactured dummy round.

Several are one-piece machine milled, some are partially plastic with metal at the stress points, and similar modifications.

This lot has one more small caliber dummy rifle round that is not shown.
