This is very rare pre-war signed and designated SPECIMEN COPY of the 1926 First Edition of W.E. Fairbairn's oriental fighting style classic DEFENDU: Scientific Self-Defence. cloth-covered hardback edition.
This 171 page 5-1/4 by 7 by 10 inch book describes fighting techniques as taught to the Shanghai Police and others using a variety of weapons, including disarming an opponent armed with a gun, as well as strikes, holds, throws and restraining techniques. The first page of the table of contents is missing from this book. This is a view of the title page, showing "Specimen Copy" and "Shanghai China 1926" in Fairbairn's handwriting and his signature.
For comparison purposes, these are two photocopies of samples of his signature and handwriting..
The condition is well-used with some minor stains on the covers and a little looseness in the binding. All the pages are present and attached, with the exception of the first page of the table of contents. This is a hard book to find in any condition, a super-rare specimen copy is an item that would be the centerpiece your collection of F-S and OSS/SOE weapons.

This is a very rare F-S presented by Wilkinson Sword for Outstanding Salesmanship fancy ring grip plated dagger.
It has the screw-down slotted pommel nut style used after WWII. It also has the very fancy English coat of arms and legend "By Appointment to H. M. Queen Elizabeth II Sword Cutlers Wilkinson Sword Ltd Made in England maker mark panel on the reverse side of the blade and the presentation panel "PRESENTED BY WILKINSON SWORD FOR OUTSTANDING SALESMANSHIP" dedication on the front side of the blade.

These are all from The World War II Victory Collection Limited Edition issued by the American Historical Foundation of Richmond, Virginia
All knives are enclosed in custom-made cases, with velvet, wood, or similar treatments complimenting the theme of the commemorated event. Note the distinctive handle and grip treatments which reflect the style used in the particular theater or in use by the particular unit.
Each knife and its associated case is in the original packing box. All knives are in mint unused condition. There may be some slight discoloration from years of storage, if so, it will be noted in the description. All knives were commissioned by the and built by either Wilkinson Sword Co. Ltd. of London England or H.G. Long & Co Sheffield England, the original manufacturer or designer of many of the combat knives these commemoratives were based on, as noted in the individual descriptions.
These knives are long out of production, being made in the early 1980s. They are very scarce and difficult to acquire as most collectors are unwilling to part with them.
We only have ONE example of each knife shown. If you see one you want, you need to know there is only one available.
