Military bracelets are shown in roughly chronological order (from WWI to the interwar years, to WWII). Both ID bracelets and sweetheart bracelets are shown together in this section. The individual descriptions should make it obvious if it is an ID or a sweetheart. Typically, bracelets measuring 6 to 6-1/2 inches are for women, and larger sizes for men.
This is a military heavy STERLING silver ID bracelet presented to Major Joseph Swing, Commanding General 11th Airborne Division by members of his command staff on Christmas Day, 1945. At the time, the 11th A/B was the occupation force of most of Japan.
The bracelet has an applied paratrooper wing with a separately applied 11th Airborne Division distinctive unit insignia device on the risers.
There is some significant, but moderate, signs of long wear and deep tarnish from age. The back of the ID has the engraved inscription "To The General from His Troops Japan 25th Dec. 1945" in three lines. It is stamped STERLING. Both claws of the clasp are also stamped STERLING. It measures 8 inches long overall. There is a split ring fastener that would break if caught or tangled during a jump.

This is a World War I military identification
bracelet named to a member of the 130th Infantry
Regiment.
This bracelet was made from a piece of artillery shell brass, with the engraved ID information hand chased with a sharp tool. The serial number, name Sgt. C.E. Bohnstedt, and unit CoY L, 130th Inf. U.S.A. The 130th IR was assigned to the 65th Infantry Brigade of the 33rd Division. They fought in France in WWI at Amiens and Verdun sectors and participated in the St. Mihiel and Meusse-Argonne offensives. This unit is still active and currently deployed in Iraq. This is a World War I military identification
bracelet named to a pilot of the US Army Air Service AEF.
This bracelet was made from a 1918 French 2 Franc silver coin, with the engraved ID information hand chased with a sharp tool. The name Sgt. Ralph Phelps, an officer's pilot's Army Air Service wing, and AIR SERVICE A.E.F. is very neatly engraved on the polished face of the coin. The bracelet has the devices of an ivory elephant, a Croix de Guerre miniature medal, a British brass Farthing coin dated 1918, a very nicely rendered Cross of Lorraine, the engraved coin disk, a good luck charm with a "13" trapped inside a horseshoe and four leaf clover, a sphinx, a German Garde helmet miniature with separately applied brass chin scales and Imperial emblem, and an Egyptian enameled phoenix bird. This is very early Pre-WWII Sainte Jeanne d'Arc P.P.N
(Pray For Us) French made religious medallion.
Joan of Arc is the Patron Saint of Soldiers and France. This medal was struck in 1920 in her birth town of Domremy. Below her bust are her birth and death dates: 1412 1431 and the date the medal was struck 1920. This is a view of the back with the words MAISON DE JEANNE D'ARC and DOMREMY below the image of her house. The maker (or artist's) mark is JB. The medal measures 3mm and has 11.5 grams of coin silver. It has a simple jump loop fastener. This is an unusual and scarce medal, and would be an interesting gift for a military member. This is a pre-WWII RCAF Pilot Officer military sweetheart
scarf pin.
Note the mid 1920s to late 1920s style RCAF emblem with King's Crown surmount, high shoulder wings, no motto, and the "C" surrounding the A in RAF in blue enamel. This pin most likely dates to the late 1920s. It is content marked STERLING. It has a "BIRKS" maker mark. The device is separately applied to the wing and has a simple hook and pin closure. The wings are nicely vaulted and recurved. This is a view of the back. It measures 14 by 40mm. It has a drop-in rotor safety catch pin fastener. The condition is near very good, with some wear to the red enamel of the King's Crown surmount, and deep tarnish to the silver, as shown. |
