Welcome to Snyder's Treasure Trove of Militaria!

Collectible U.S. Militaria

This page contains a sampling of our extensive collection of US militaria from all wars, and all branches of the services, including related supporting groups, such as the Red Cross, USO, and similar service organizations with close ties to the US military.

The US militaria is categorized by service, and then by era. US Army items are located together, for example, and then sorted by era, from oldest to latest. If you are looking for specific pieces, you may need to check to ensure the item you need is not in a location you may expect on the site. As usual, if you have specific questions or items you seek, please email us for details. Include details of what you are looking for, to save everyone time and effort.

Patches and Distinctive Unit Insignia are on separate pages. Uniforms and uniform accessories have been moved here.

We are in the process of listing dozens of WWI Victory medals and other Great War related decorations. See them here.

You can email us at snyderstr@aol.com with questions. Use the links below to jump to specific categories of items.

PLEASE NOTE: Most of our Post WWI, WWII, and Cold War wing badges are in a separate section of our Gallery. You can view them in a slideshow format. Each wing in the Gallery shows availability, price and detailed descriptions. Included are wings from the USAAC, USAAF, USN, USCG, and some civilian and defense-oriented organizations. There is also integrated RSS feed compatibility in that section.

United States Military Medals and Decorations

Featured Item

This is an outstanding identified group of WWI decorations and insignia awarded to Major General Frank McIntrye.

Frank McIntyre enrolled at the United States Military Academy in 1882, and graduated from West Point in 1886. A fellow classmate and roommate of McIntyre was General John J. Pershing. McIntyre entered the United States army as a second lieutenant in the 19th Infantry, serving in various ranks until he attained that of brigadier-general in 1912. Meanwhile he saw duty at different posts, chiefly on the Mexican border, until the war with Spain, in which he participated in the Porto Rico expedition in 1898. McIntyre served in the Philippines from 1899 to 1902, after which he served with the general staff.

McIntyre was attached to the Bureau of Insular Affairs in 1905 and became its Chief in 1912, relieving General Clarence Ransom Edwards. During the War in Europe he was assistant chief of staff with the rank of major-general. For his role in the First World War, McIntyre received decorations including the French Legion of Honor, the highest decoration in France, established by Napoleon Bonaparte, First Consul of the First Republic, founded in May 1802, and Knight Commander of the Bath, (K.C.B.) military division, [The Most Honourable Order Of The Bath (1725)] from Great Britain, and the Distinguished Service Medal of the United States of America. McIntyre served as long-time Chief of the Bureau of Insular Affairs and played a significant role in the governance of the Philippines and Puerto Rico throughout this period.

The KCB is very rarely encountered and almost never available for acquisition.  In particular, one awarded to a US military commander is ultra-rare.  The neck order and breast device are shown below. These are images of the back of the neck order and an overall view including the neck ribbon and the back of the breast device.

Below the KCB is shown his Chief of Insular Affairs branch insignia. This insignia is extremely rare, the only branch insignia worn by a general grade officer. Emerson's Encyclopedia of of United States Army Insignia and Uniforms uses a photo of MG McIntryre on page 294 wearing this device. This is the back of the insignia.

Also included in this lot are his WWI Victory Medal (with FRANCE service bar) and his Czechoslovakia War Cross of 1918 (very rarely conferred to foreigners). This is the back of the pair of medals. There are a number of archive photos of MG McIntyre in uniform and several pages of documentation of his service copied from several sources included with this lot. This is a brief biography listing his awards and service.

Four War General Officer US Senator Governor of Pennsylvania Edward Martin Group

This is an unusual group of medals, patches, pins, and devices once belonging to Edward Martin (1879-1967) and his son, Captain Edward S. Martin.

Edward Martin ran for office fifteen times and never lost an election. In addition to being governor (1943-1947) and U. S. Senator (1947-1953), Martin, six-foot four inches tall, had a distinguished military career through four wars: Spanish-American War, Philippine Insurrection, WWI and WWII.  He was the Commanding General of the 28th Division in WWII until he was retired by age regulations after serving more than 40 years in the Army. During WWI, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross twice, and the Purple Heart twice. During WWI, he served with the 109th and 110th Infantry Regiments in five major campaigns in France from July 15, 1917, to April 25, 1919, leaving the war as a lieutenant colonel. A far more complete biographical history is available online from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

This lot a number of items from his son, including his military wartime ID card, dogtags, and some patches.  The fancy embroidered flag he had in his office is offered in a separate listing

One of the more unusual items is a medal from the Army, Navy and Air Force in Canada, named and engraved to Senator Edward Martin. There are a number of solid gold pins from the various war veteran groups he was a member of.  Some gold and silver bullion patches for the CIB and 5-1/2 years in combat zones are present. This is a view of the lot from the back.

Also included in this lot is the original WWI 111th Infantry Regiment parade size (about 4 by 6 feet) fringed flag.  It survived a direct shell hit on the headquarters, recovered by LTC Martin, one of the very few survivors. The flag is in near-relic condition, and shows significant damage from combat and age.  Pieces of the embroidered regimental coat of arms are shown here and here.

VERY Rare USMC "FACIAT GEORGIUS" Medal

This is a very rare Guadalcanal made "Let George Do It" medal.

This medal was made by US Marines abandoned on Guadalcanal after the US Navy bugged out following the loss of four ships.  The Navy had only offloaded a portion of the supplies needed by the USMC ashore.  Marines on the island had captured a Japanese metal striking machine and created the medal. (Other accounts say 50 of the medals were stuck in Australia before the machine gave out). It depicts a sailor dropping a hot potato into the hands of a Marine and the words "Faciat Georgius" ("Let George Do It" and the desert cactus (from the name OPERATION CACTUS given to the Guadalcanal invasion) on the front.  The back of the medal depicts an electric fan blowing on the backside of a cow (symbolic of "when the shit hit the fan") and the words "In Fond Remembrance of the Happy Days spent from Aug 7th 1942 to Jan 5th 1943"

The medal is suspended by an HBT "ribbon".  Colonel Ed Buckley was the Grand Master of the Order, and pinned this medal on very few US Marines of the 1st Division.  This is a VERY rare and hard to find medal.

It measures 2-3/8 inches across and 3-1/4 inches long overall.
